The 2012-2013 Concordia University Community Lecture Series on HIV/AIDS, in partnership with Cinema Politica and FASA, is pleased to present:
Mia Donovan, Montréal-based filmmaker and photographer, received a B.F.A. in Art History and Studio Arts from Concordia and is currently working on her M.F.A. in Film Production. She is best known for directing the documentary feature Inside Lara Roxx (2011), produced by EyeSteelFilm, which debuted last year at the Hot Docs Festival. Inside Lara Roxx centers on the raw, emotional story of Montréal-native porn actress Lara Roxx who, after having moved to work in the L.A. industry in 2004, contracted HIV within only one day of performing sex in front of the camera. Refusing to let Roxx’s story be forgotten, Donovan stays with her for more than six years after her “fifteen minutes of fame” and follows her through the ups and downs of her life as she tries to reinvent herself. Concordia University is pleased to welcome both Mia Donovan and Lara Roxx to present a screening of Inside Lara Roxx and to speak about their experiences around HIV and the process of documenting and living such a poignant journey.
