Our 9th International LitCam Conference “Literacy and Integration“will take place on 8 October 2014 in the Congress Center of the Frankfurt Fair.
Literacy and basic education as well as language learning are fundamental for integration in so many aspects of social, political and economical life. The conference will concentrate specially on Europe, with a strong focus on the European Union. The new founded European network ELINET, the European Literacy Policy Network, will take part at this conference as well as our cooperation partner the Finnish Literature Exchange organisation FILI, which is the organiser of the Finnish guest of Honor presentation at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
What is the best way to integrate children with migration background into the education system, how can the existing programmes accommodate the fast growing numbers of immigrants? What about illiterate parents?
Finland increasingly faces challenges with more and more immigration, whilst Great Britain, France and Germany have many years of experience with the same. Therefore the former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen is invited as one of the keynote speakers.
The conference will focus on political and social aspects which will be reflected and discussed in a panel discussion with Ministers from four different EU countries.
The discussion will be followed by short presentations from organisations who will talk about their practical experiences of literacy work in migrant communities.
The conference will close with a focus on literature: Authors with migration backgrounds will talk about their personal experiences, their books and how writing helped them flourish in a foreign country.
Join us on the 8th of October 2014 in Frankfurt to discuss “Literacy and Integration” with experts from theory, practice, and politics and learn more about the work of NGOs from Finland, Malta, Italy and Spain.
We are looking forward to welcome the Finnish Minister of Education, the Minister of Education of the Netherlands and the Minister of Education of Malta.
